Preparing Your Photos For Shipping: 1. Special shipping boxes/cartons are usually available at your local post office and many office supply stores; consider using one of these as they are sturdier than envelopes when sending (irreplaceable) photographs through the mail. 2. Place your photo between two sturdy pieces of cardboard (the same size or larger) to prevent bending. Fasten the cardboard together, string or packing tape will work nicely. 3. Include detailed instructions for each restoration, and be very specific when describing each photo to avoid any confusion when sending multiple photos ("old lady with purple hat ", instead of "Millie"). If you're sending multiple photos in the same mailing, please number the back of each photo with an acid free pen or a pencil. 4. Tape the edges, seams and all corners of the envelope or box, for added security. 5. Write "Photos - Do Not Bend!" on each side of the envelope or box, preferably in a bright annoying colour. Slides & Negatives 1. Please take care to ensure your slides and negatives are numbered, and are protected from the elements. Consider using envelopes that have some form of plastic coating on the inside or seal them (using two sturdy pieces of cardboard with your name and contact information noted on the cardboard) in a ziplock bag before putting them into the envelope or box. 2. For slides in trays, tape them securely and write your name and address on each slide tray. For added security, tape film canisters shut. Useful Packaging Tips 1. When shipping from the US( or International ) to Canada: Please be very careful with your choice of words when filling out the customs declaration form. Be sure to enter a replacement value (even if you purchase insurance, neither USPS nor CPC will replace the sentimental value, only the cost of replacing film and re-printing photographs. For example: "8x10 photo of Millie with her purple hat " with a value of $10, is a very clear description. A misunderstood label could result in duty and taxes being charged on the value of the parcel, which will ultimately be billed to you. 2. Be sure you correctly address the packing carton/envelope and don't forget to include your return address. Our mailing address is: Pearson Photography 1097 Main Street Sussex Corner, NB E4E 2Z9 3. Please note that we can not be held responsible for lost, damaged or misdirected mail. To ensure safe arrival of your parcel, insurance is one option. Please keep in mind most shipping companies (Canada Post and the United States Post Office included) will only insure the replacement value of the items being shipped. This means if you are sending photos, the post office will only insure the cost of reprints. If you're sending undeveloped film, only the cost of new film will be insurable. Sentimental value is just that, sentimental. We strongly encourage the shipment of your package by any method where a tracking number is provided, or a signature is required upon delivery. In the event the parcel is mis-directed or lost, at least there is the possiblity of locating its whereabouts or last location via the tracking number. To date, we have not experienced any problems with parcels going astray, however it's always better to err on the side of caution.
